The Princess and The Fairy

Ages 4-8

Where do we find fairies? Outside, in gardens and under big trees. If we are very quiet, we might find them sipping moonlight tea with a tiny cup and teapot. The princess might come out of her castle for a stroll among the lilies. In this camp, we will create fantastic fairy worlds and the magical creatures that live there.

Mosaic Tiles

Drawing, carving, painting, sculpting… the possibilities are endless when creating with 3D clay tiles. We will create unique artwork to take home and hang on the wall as well as work together on a collaborative mosaic mural. Let your creativity shine through ceramic tile design.

Join instructor Cayce as we explore the many different ways to build and make wonderful works of art with clay. Use pinch and coil techniques to make wacky creatures from your imagination. Take a spin on the potter’s wheel to make cups and bowls that you can use at home. Combine elements of hand building and wheel throwing to make amazing one-of-a-kind creations that will dazzle your friends and family.

Who’s In The Garden?

There is so much beauty in nature to inspire our creativity. There are birds and their nests, frogs croaking around the pond, dragonflies in the air and butterflies on the daisies. We will make colorful clay projects and paint them with lively colors and glossy glaze. Each fun creation will give plenty of room for the imagination to grow.

Beginner Wheel Throwing

This is the camp that will let you play on the potter’s wheel for the entire week! The focus of this camp will be making pottery that you can actually use at home. We’ll cover cups, plates, bowls, and even planters for your favorite plants. Get ready to get your hands delightfully dirty every day while learning about this fun way to create with clay.

In other parts of the world, there are still MORE ways to work with clay- and this camp will be all about finding out how! Projects will include making your own stop motion “how to” movie demonstrating a technique from a culture that inspires you.

Animal Pots

What’s your favorite animal? This week will be all about creating flowerpots and bowls on the potter’s wheel. We will bring our pots to life by adding animal characteristics such as eyes, beaks, tails, ears, wings and more. The finished pieces will be both functional and playful.

A continuation of skills learned in earlier wheel throwing summer camps, this camp will build on skills kids have already learned as well as adding larger and more advanced projects. We’ll break down some familiar techniques and really hone in on making excellent pots.

Magical Nature

Story time! In this camp, we will listen to a series of nature themed children’s stories and then illustrate our imagination with creative sculptures. Demonstrations will be given on how to create fairy houses, mushrooms, flowers, leaves and more. By the end of the week, we will have a whole collection of colorful sculptures to play with.

Clay Construction

You can build anything you can imagine out of clay and this camp will show you how! We will explore the many ways of constructing with clay using a variety of handbuilding techniques. Learn how to fabricate with slabs, attach with coils and assemble parts to make colorful creative sculptures and functional pottery to take home.

Fantastic Boxes

Where do you keep your treasures? In this camp, we will design and build special clay boxes and treasure chests to keep for years to come. Customize your boxes with patterned textures and lots of color. These precious boxes make great places to store little keepsakes.

Time to get dizzy learning a popular craft in the Carolinas. This week we will make pottery every student is proud to take home and use! Vases, bowls and mugs are on the agenda, and students will get a much more in depth look at decorating and glazing their pieces.

Advanced Wheel

Attention all young artists! This is a camp for kids who have taken a wheel camp with Kelsey or who already have some experience on the potter’s wheel. Daily demonstrations will cover important skills in the studio. A series of challenging projects will inspire your creativity. We will be working on making a set of bowls, cups, or plates, taller vases and lidded jars.
