Ready, Set, Throw! One-Night Pottery Classes

 

Ever wanted to try your hand at the pottery wheel? Have you always wanted to learn to throw but you’re not sure if you want to commit to an 8-week class? Or maybe you and some friends are just looking for something different to do in Asheville on a Friday night. Well, look no further. Ready, Set, Throw is here!

Even if you’ve never touched clay before, our highly skilled staff will guide you through the entire process. It’s the perfect opportunity to get creative and have fun! All ages and skill levels are welcome.

Writing for Creatives: The Well-Crafted Word

Instructors: Shinara Taylor and Gabriel Kline

In art as in life, good writing will always win the day! That being said, many artists struggle with this important career skill. Gabriel and Shinara are here to demystify the process. We have created a laid back, but jam-packed, 5-week business class focusing on writing for artists in all media. We’ll start by showing you ten ways to dynamize your writing while covering topics like artists statements, resumes, teaching proposals, grant applications and more. Each class will feature one-on-one time with the instructors to give you feedback on your specific writing projects.

 

Tuition $150

Colored Clay: Blends and Tests

Do you love using color in your work, but can’t always find the right underglaze or glaze? Coloring your clay is a unique and affordable way to get just the look you want! Join Allie in this fun exploration of all thing color. Using mason stains and other commercial products to create vibrant colored clays, you’ll learn basic and advanced methods for blending, mixing and testing materials. Whether you like to slip cast, throw on the wheel, decorate with underglaze or just plain love to glaze, these systems for color development can be infinitely applied to your own processes.

 

Levels: Seasoned Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.

Colored Clay

Beginner Wheel: Get Centered!

Saturdays, 10am – 12:30pm

A perfect introduction for those just beginning their pottery journey and seasoned beginners who want to sharpen their skills. You’ll learn the basics of making bowls, mugs, and other functional pieces through group demonstrations and plenty of individual instruction. You’ll glaze and then we’ll fire your work, resulting in microwavable, dishwasher safe pieces you’ll treasure for years to come.

Matt’s Class

Matt’s Class: Handbuilding ABOVE and Beyond

Come experience the love of clay! Join instructor Matt Wegleitner and learn the skills needed to create decorative, hand-built, and functional pottery. Demonstrations will include pinch, coil, and slab techniques with a focus on creating interesting surfaces and unique forms. We’ll also cover the basics of glazing and firing your work. All skill levels welcome.

Me, You and Raku

Instructor: Paul Gisondo

 

Mondays, 11am – 1:30pm

August 31st – Spetember 28th

 

Create dramatic wheel thrown forms with Raku in mind and in preparation for an incendiary day of hand-on firing with Raku Guru Paul Gisondo. Students will learn faceting and how to create trapped air forms, as well as how to throw towering vases in 2 parts.  We will use tape and wax resist design techniques and glaze our work with a variety of crackle, iridescent luster and matte glazes.  For adventurous intermediate (and above) wheel throwers.

 

Level: Intermediate and Advanced
